If you love geology and science the Mistaken Point tour is awesome
Mistaken Point Fossil Tour is very informative! It would be difficult to identify the fossils without a professional guide!
It is a small but new and clean center with some interesting history of the area. No fossils however. Staff is super friendly. Small gift shop on site however no drinks or snacks available for sale. It is located on the main southern shore highway in the community of Portugal Cove South. It is about a thirty minute drive from the starting point of the 3 kilometer hike to Mistaken Point.
Long drive to get there, long walk too. Not as hard as they make it out to be on website. Check the local weather before you go, it won't be the same as st Johns. It's is a great feeling knowing you are standing on something 550 million years old.
These places need to become by donation instead of fixed charges. To pay $20 for a group of 4 people to enter a single room is steep in my opinion. We didn't enter for this reason but still the building is nice and the staff were wonderful.
